Welcome! We are the Kanka Academy of Kyokushin, founded in 1999 by Sensei Ken Hicks,  under the guidance of International Karate Organization (IKO) Kyokushinkaikan United States Branch Chief Shihan Gorai and IKO Kyokushinkaikan Director Kancho Shokei Matsui.

The academy started in a modest 1200 square foot facility, offering authentic Kyokushin training to students of all ages. Shortly after,  the Kyokushin Karate Before/After School program was created and parents were afforded the oppurtunity to place their children in a program that focused on physical, mental and spiritual growth as well as academic support.

Within a two year period, the academy moved to its current 5300 square foot facility, which includes boys and girls locker rooms, weight room and larger training floor.

Shortly after relocating into the new facility, Sensei Ken was selected to the 2003 United States Kyokushin Fight Team to represent the U.S. at the World Cup Karate Tournament, held in Tokyo, Japan every 4 years. The academy continues to this day providing solid, authentic Kyokushin training for all those who wish to improve their level of physical, mental and spiritual fitness.
